Olight Baton 4 Pro Review: A Flashlight That Earned a Spot in My Pocket

Published on 14 June 2026 at 20:52

Let's be honest—most of us have a drawer, toolbox, or truck console full of flashlights that were supposed to be the next great thing. Some are too bulky to carry, some aren't bright enough to be useful, and some end up dead the one time you actually need them.

When Olight reached out and asked if I'd test their new Baton 4 Pro, I wasn't interested in reading off a spec sheet and calling it a review. I wanted to carry it, use it, and see if it could actually earn a place in my everyday routine.

Over the past few weeks, that's exactly what I've done.

The Specs

Before we get into real-world use, let's cover the basics.

The Baton 4 Pro packs up to 1,600 lumens into a compact package that's small enough to disappear in your pocket. It features a rechargeable battery, USB-C charging, a magnetic tailcap, multiple brightness settings, and dual-switch operation.

On paper, that's a solid list of features.

But as we all know, gear isn't judged on paper. It's judged in the field.

Hunting Applications

As a hunter, most of my flashlight use happens before daylight or after dark.

Whether I'm walking into a stand, checking trail cameras, unloading gear, or navigating a trail before sunrise, having dependable light is critical.

What I immediately noticed about the Baton 4 Pro was how well-balanced the beam pattern is. It's not an extreme spotlight, and it's not an overwhelming floodlight. It gives enough distance to identify obstacles while still illuminating everything around you.

For me, that's exactly what I want while moving through the woods.

The compact size is another huge advantage. Nobody wants a giant flashlight bouncing around in their pocket during a hunt. The Baton 4 Pro rides comfortably and is small enough that you forget it's there until you need it.

Around Camp

A good flashlight earns its keep around camp.

Setting up tents, gathering firewood, organizing gear, cooking dinner after dark, and making midnight trips away from camp all require dependable lighting.

One feature that stood out to me during camp use was the magnetic tailcap.

Being able to stick the light to a vehicle, trailer, grill, camp table, or other metal surface instantly turns it into a hands-free work light. It's one of those features that sounds nice on paper but becomes incredibly useful once you start using it.

The lower brightness settings are also excellent for camp use. Not every task requires maximum output, and being able to preserve your night vision while still having usable light is something many people overlook.

Fire Station Use

As a firefighter, I carry and use gear every day. Equipment gets abused, dropped, exposed to weather, and generally put through more than most people will ever subject their gear to.

While the Baton 4 Pro isn't designed to replace a dedicated duty light, it has become incredibly useful around the station.

I've used it checking apparatus compartments, inspecting equipment, looking into tool cabinets, working around the bay, and performing routine station tasks.

One thing I appreciate is that it delivers plenty of output without taking up valuable pocket space. When you're already carrying radios, gloves, tools, and everything else that comes with the job, compact gear becomes extremely valuable.

The magnetic tailcap once again proves useful around apparatus and equipment.

Around The House

Some of the most frequent flashlight use actually happens at home.

Finding something under furniture, checking a breaker panel, looking around the garage, taking the dog outside, or dealing with power outages are all situations where a good flashlight comes in handy.

With a newborn in the house, I've also found myself reaching for lower brightness settings at night when I need light but don't want to wake everyone up.

The Baton 4 Pro's compact size makes it easy to grab and use for these everyday tasks without feeling like overkill.

What I Like

The biggest thing I like about the Baton 4 Pro is that it's practical.

It's small enough to actually carry.

It's bright enough for almost any situation most people will encounter.

The USB-C charging is convenient.

The magnetic tailcap is incredibly useful.

The construction feels solid and durable.

Most importantly, it's a flashlight that I find myself reaching for regularly.

That's ultimately the test any piece of gear has to pass.

Final Thoughts

After carrying the Baton 4 Pro through hunting trips, camp setups, fire station duties, vehicle projects, and everyday life around the house, I can confidently say it's earned a permanent spot in my rotation.

Is it the biggest flashlight I own? No.

Is it the brightest flashlight I own? No.

But it may be the flashlight I actually carry the most.

For hunters, campers, outdoorsmen, firefighters, first responders, and anyone looking for a dependable everyday carry flashlight, the Baton 4 Pro strikes a great balance between size, performance, and practicality.

At the end of the day, the best flashlight isn't the one with the highest lumen rating.

It's the one that's in your pocket when you need it.

And for me, that's exactly where the Baton 4 Pro has found its place.
