Ah yes, the great topic of hunting apparel. In this article, I will be dissecting the ins and outs of the Kuiu Pro Pants. This article is not to look down upon other gear brands, I just personally have not owned gear from say Sitka or Firstlite. It is just me expressing my opinions and what I love about these pants and why they are my favorite hunting pants I have owned and used in the field. On a sunny day here in SoDak Erik and I decided to hit the prairie to get our guns we plan on using this season sighted in. My main goal was to put on a test with my XPR 6.5 to determine which round my rifle liked the most in terms of accuracy. In this test I put the following types of bullets against each other:

I have wanted a .17 HMR for quite some time for various reasons. One reason or another I always came up with justifications against it such as I have a .22 LR, I can hunt small game with other means, prices of a new rifle, etc. When I say some things in life sort of stumble into your lap, they definitely do. While at a local gun show I was scouring every booth and table for a perfect deal on something. I wasn't sure on what, but I knew I was going to not be going home empty handed. Towards the end of the day, I had made countless loops looking at the same stuff all day, then I finally stopped at a booth that had caught my eye earlier in the day. I saw the Citadel Trakr on the gun rack chambered in .22WMR and .17 HMR. To make a long story short which I will pick apart later on in this article, I ended up walking out with the Citadel Trakr .17HMR!

When I first moved to South Dakota back in 2021, my biggest goal was to embrace the "Western" hunting culture. Watching shows like MeatEater, and other various shows on the Outdoors Channel, it can really implant a strong desire to hunt here out west. The wide-open skies, the vast plains, the heart-pounding stalks, the miles upon miles put on each day... the list can go on forever. What I didn't know was how much gear went into this style of hunting out here, and along with that comes with money. I knew I needed to upgrade to a versatile cartridge to hunt game from Antelope to Mule deer, so after research and getting opinions from people I set out for my local Cabela's. I was scouring their gun rack not super impressed with rifles in my price range such as the Savage Axis series, but when I saw this Winchester XPR and got my hands on it, I was hooked! The one I had looked at is composite material designed in the "Strata" camo pattern. The bolt handle and the barrel are coyote tan perma-cote. It was outfitted with a Vortex Crossfire II scope, and after some hard thinking on it I filled out the paperwork and walked out the door with it!
